My Life as a Unit Trust Consultant

Assalamualaikum...


My early life

Before I join Public Mutual, I worked as Admin Executive in one of local factory at Padang Tembak, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. At that time, I was thinking that I need to find ways to earn more income. I did everything I could to earn extra income until I met with my upline's husband, Mr. Toh Chee Hoe in 2004. He introduced me to his wife, GAM Margaret Law.

That was the perfect timing when I met Mr, Toh because I really look for part-time job to earn extra income. My upline, GAM Margaret share about Unit Trust business. I was amazed by the way she talk about investment by giving a few examples. She even make comparison of the return of investment between Public Mutual and other authorised investment. So I was thinking that this business is very good because if I was an investor, I want my investment gives me more profit for sure.

My first impression, sales is not my line. This is because I had zero background in sales. But after hearing the explanation about investment and this career, I decided to join her as a Unit Trust Consultant. I join Public Mutual in 2004 as a part-timer. In 2007, I decided to quit my job but my employer didn't accept my resignation. But in 2008, I decided to resign to join as a full-timer Unit Trust Consultant


My biggest challenge

At first I found difficulties to look for client or prospect. I was not really confident to talk with client especially strangers. But somehow I give myself a chance to try in this business. I need to work very hard than others because of my zero background and knowledge about investment.  I attended a lot of training especially organised by my agency and at least once a week without fail and also doing my research about investment until I become more confident. I also learn to do sales during road show. I still remember my first client willing to invest RM5,000 cash during my first road show after I shared about investment and free insurance coverage.


Motivation

I am very attracted on incentive scheme offered by Public Mutual. There was one day when I did my presentation for less than an hour and I manage to get income more than hundred ringgit. This really motivate me because if I do more, than I will get more. So every time I close sales, I will job it down in my notebook as my motivation.


My Agency

At first I was not so focused on my group. But after my agency expanding, I realized that I need to extra focus to my downlines. I always treat my downlines as my business associates. I never left my group and always be there for help. I did lot of activities and programs so that my downlines did not lose track in this business.
